Somaya Soliman
Somaya Soliman is an Egyptian visual artist and writer with an academic background in Microbiology and Chemistry and a Master’s degree in Medical Microbiology and Immunology from the United Arab Emirates University, Faculty of Medicine and Health. Her scientific education and professional experience in medical microbiology and scientific research have shaped her observational and analytical approach, while her lifelong engagement with writing, art, healing, and the exploration of consciousness has gradually led her toward a deeply personal artistic practice.
As an artist, Soliman works primarily within a contemporary expressionist and symbolic language. Her paintings explore the relationship between woman, nature, and the inner world, using simplified forms, saturated colors, and dreamlike imagery. Rather than focusing on realistic representation, she uses color, shape, and symbolism to express psychological and emotional states. The female figure frequently appears in her work as a symbol of an inner journey, while elements of nature become visual metaphors for memory, transformation, freedom, and spiritual experience. Her creative identity extends beyond painting. Soliman is also a writer of short stories and abstracts, and her first short-story collection, The Female Sinbad, was published in Egypt and the United Arab Emirates. The collection later became the inspiration for her forthcoming art exhibition of the same title, bringing her literary and visual practices together in a shared exploration of feminine identity, freedom, transformation, and the journey inward.
Her interest in the relationship between creativity and the inner self has also led her to explore art therapy, Reiki, energy healing, and metaphysical studies. She attended an art therapy course at Abu Alazayem Psychology Hospital in cooperation with an international Canadian institution and has studied Reiki at multiple levels. These experiences have contributed to her interest in the emotional, symbolic, and intuitive dimensions of human experience, which continue to inform her artistic vision.
Soliman’s work has been exhibited in Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, including participation in exhibitions in Abu Dhabi and Cairo. Her current artistic project, The Female Sinbad, represents a continuation of her literary and visual journey, transforming the idea of the woman as a traveler into a broader metaphor for inner exploration, freedom, and transformation.
