Abstract- 5

Abstract- 5

Abstract- 5 by Somaya Soliman unfolds within a broad field of blue and turquoise. Slender green, yellow, and red marks rise through the cooler color, while larger curved passages create a gentle movement across the surface. The forms remain loosely defined, allowing their relationships to shift as the eye moves.

Deeper blues gather near the sides and upper areas, framing a lighter central space. Warm yellow and red provide small points of contrast within this cool atmosphere. Some marks appear close to the surface, while others seem partly veiled by overlapping color, giving the image depth through layering.

The combination of vertical accents and broader curves creates an uneven, organic rhythm. These forms can suggest stems, grasses, or underwater growth without resolving into a fixed subject. The painterly surface keeps the composition open, with softened transitions between adjacent passages.

The work’s quieter energy comes from the exchange between spacious blue and the narrower marks within it. Abstract- 5 invites a sustained look at changing color relationships, allowing natural associations to arise without requiring a narrative. Its luminous center gives the abstraction an airy, gently expansive character.
